Welcome Back SQL Sentry and Kevin Kline

sqlsentrySQL Cruise has had a great relationship with SQL Sentry since our very first event back in 2010.  Kevin Kline, Director of Engineering Services at SQL Sentry has been with us even before joining SQL Sentry.  Now we get Kevin aboard both as a Technical Lead and as an agent of SQL Sentry.

Kevin Kline does not need much of an introduction to those in the SQL Community.  He’s the author of perhaps the most famous book on SQL, SQL in a Nutshell.  Kevin also served two terms as the President of the Professional Association for SQL Server, and is a high-profile speaker and community evangelist for Microsoft SQL Server in addition to his duties with SQL Sentry.  A full bio for Kevin can be located on our Technical Leads page.

This year Kevin is back and will be presenting on the subject of “codeless” performance enhancements for Microsoft SQL Server.  His session, Configuration Option and Trace Flag Secrets: Surprising Behavior at the Flick of a Switch, narrowly beat out one of the other abstracts he submitted.  It was a tough decision, but this just means we need to have him (and SQL Sentry) back in 2015, right?  Here is that “winning” abstract:

If you’ve been a SQL Server Database Administrator or Developer for any length of time, you’ve probably heard of various options that you can set at the instance- or database-level that can impact performance. Do you know what they are, when to use them, or what they do? And what about all of those trace flags? There are so many of them and many are undocumented. What gives? In this session, you’ll learn about a variety of ways to speed up IO, adjust memory, change plan and buffer cache behavior, debug the SQL query optimizer, and how to punch SQL Server in the face!

In addition to his formal classroom session, Kevin is always a valuable addition to our SQL Cruise Office Hours, our dedicated time for working through your real-world problems in group sessions so that you can bring problems with you on the cruise, with the goal of leaving them behind on the high seas in exchange for solutions when you arrive back in port.

We’re definitely glad to have Kevin and SQL Sentry back on SQL Cruise!  Thank you SQL Sentry for once again sponsoring our one-of-a-kind event for Microsoft SQL Server and Professional Development training and sending your one-of-a-Klined Kevin Kline.
