Day Three was Sponsored by Red Gate. We found it fitting since Tim’s book is about to be published by Red Gate. This was the first day of extensive SQL Server training on the cruise and it kicked off bright and early at 7:00am with Tim Ford presenting a 3 hour long session on Dynamic Management Objects. The session venue was quite unique as well – in the evening hours it’s a bar called Shangri-La. We will not make any references to Tim presenting a session in the Pleasure-Dome. The Cruisers gathered around on lounge chairs and couches over the course of the three hours to hear Tim talk of all things sys.dm_* while Tim satisfied a goal of presenting in a bar, though his goals of also wearing a swimsuit and holding a fruity drink while doing so did not surpass his need for coffee at such an early time of day.
After the DMV session we all had just enough time to grab a quick bite to eat and gather our things for our day in Cozumel. However, before stepping off the boat we did meet once again on the SQL Cruise deck to announce the winner of the SQL Cruise / Red Gate netbook! This was awarded to the winner of our Hariest Execution Plan Contest. Taking a lead from the perennial cringe-inducing Hariest Man Contest they hold on cruises we asked our Cruisers to bring their ugliest execution plan to Miami for judging by Brent and Tim. The worst one wins for a change in this contest!
The winner of the SQL Cruise / Red Gate netbook was Yanni Smith (@yannismith on Twitter)! Congratulations Yanni! Thank you Red Gate for your sponsorship of SQL Cruise!
Stay tuned to SQLCruise.com as well for an additional contest from Red Gate. Two winners will each receive a single license to their latest product: SQL Source Control for the best memory from SQL Cruise 2010 (presented in photographic or story form.) Once the submissions are collected we will roll them out here.
